This book has come about as a result of a number of seminars and workshops in Turkey and Sweden. The first such events took place at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara during the fall of 1998, and was immediately followed by a seminar at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul. The second meeting was held at Göteborg University in Sweden in February 1999. The third gathering was at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul in November 1999, where the final drafts of this volume were discussed. |
