A road map of the Roman empire, founded on a Roman map (Orbis pictus) of M. Agrippa. Drawn probably in the 3d century, and copied on 12 leaves (11 of which have been preserved) about 1264, by a monk of Colmar. Konrad Meissel (or Celtes) found it in Worms, and left it to Peutinger in 1507, since which time it has been called by the latter's name. Some portions of it were published by M. Welser, in 1591, after which the original was lost until 1714, when it was rediscovered, and placed in the Royal library at Vienna.
