On p. ix the intaglio that forms the subject of the present work is compared to a gem in the collection of Signor Borioni, which the anonymous author had previously described. A note refers to: Collect. Rom. Antiq. p. 59. The text of Collectanea antiquitatum romanarum ... exhibet Antonius Borioni (Romae : Ex typographia Rochi Bernabò, 1736) is by Ridolfino Venuti, who therefore must be the author of the present work. The intaglio is illustrated on p. [iii], with legend: "In jaspide viridi apud Io. Petrum marchio. Lucatelli". Dedicated to: Marchese Gio. Pietro Lucatelli. Copper engraved initial at l. A2r.
