|a The University of Leipzig, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma, conducted excavations in the southeastern part of the Roman Suburbium near the modern metro station Anagnina. A Roman villa was investigated from 2010-2013, firstly in order to sketch the ground plan of the architectural remains, and secondly in order to date the construction phases. The so-called Anagnina Villa was constructed in the first half of the 3rd century BC, enlarged in the early 1st century BC, and entirely destroyed and rebuilt in the Augustan era. The mid-Republican villa (800 m2) evinces a unique architectural design, while the destruction debris from the second phase contains many fragments of wall painting (early Third Pompeian Style) and architectural decoration
